Status: Completed

Vote Type: Standard
Proposer: Cllr Sally Fitzgerald
Seconder: Cllr Alison Davies

Decision:

Cllr Sally Fitzgerald introduced her motion and explained that car parking charges are set to rise from the 1st August. Whilst a new lower charge for up to 1 hour had been introduced, this was still 20p more than the previous charge for up to one hour when it existed. A discussion was held by members about the car parking situation in Welshpool and how the County Council was using these as 'cash cows'. Members were concerned at the impact on people who parked to work in the town centre and volunteers who also worked at charity shops in the town centre. Members were also concerned at the rises and how these were being applied across the county without due care for individual economic or transport circumstances in each town. Members were also concerned at the plans to introduce charges for blue badge holders and how these rises will have an impact on illegal parking.

RESOLVED
To call on Powys County Council to cancel the increased charges and consider the impact on residents, workers and visitors and instructs the Town Clerk to write to the appropriate Cabinet Member expressing the above.
