Decision:
Cllr Alison Davies explained her motion and the background including the cancelled trains on key dates on the Cambrian Line. She explained that 30% of Welshpool residents do not have cars so rely on public transport which must be reliable and repeat cancellations leads to economic issues for the town. She also explained that next year during Tour de France a large number of people will rely on the train network to get to Welshpool and urged strategic action to improve services.
A discussion was had by Members who also explained their own issues with the public transport network including bus stops which had been removed and the reliability of services. It was agreed that the motion should also include the local Member of Parliament and Gwynedd Council as people to contact to urge action.
RESOLVED
Communicate with Welsh Government, Senedd, Member of Parliament, Powys County Council, Ceredigion County Council and Gwynedd Council and Councillors; Community and Town Councils along the Cambrian Line; Cambrian Line; Welshpool Rail Users; PAVO; and Mid Wales Tourism; and
Advise them of our concerns and request that, together, we initiate much stronger pressure to achieve public transport provision in Mid Wales that meets the needs of local people and visitors.
