FC281026/10.2 - PTHB Better Together Programme
This was a decision taken on 28/10/2026 by Full Council numbered WTCM962.
Status: In progress
Vote Type: Standard
Proposer: Cllr Revd William Rowell
Seconder: Cllr Phil Owen
Decision:
The Council considered the Powys Teaching Health Board's Better Together programme and the proposed changes to local health services.
Members expressed concern about the potential impact of the proposals on Welshpool and surrounding communities, particularly the reduction of services available locally and the additional difficulties this could create for patients.
Discussion took place regarding the evidence supporting the proposals and whether the consultation documents provided sufficient information to enable residents to make informed responses.
Members questioned aspects of the consultation, including the wording of the questions and whether respondents were being given adequate opportunity to express opposition to the proposed changes.
The Council's previously agreed position opposing reductions in services at Welshpool Hospital was reiterated.
Members felt that the Council should prepare a detailed response to the consultation, supported by evidence and addressing the potential consequences for local residents.
It was proposed that a working group be established to examine the consultation documents and prepare a response for consideration by Full Council.
RESOLVED
To establish a working group to draw up a response to the PTHB Better Together consultation consisting of Cllrs William Rowell, Richard Church, Morag Bailey, Jackson Quarrell, Phil Owen and Phil Pritchard.
